Pappy’s Creamy Great Northern Beans

1 lb Pappy’s Great Northern Beans

3 cloves of garlic, minced

1 large onion, chopped

1 tsp salt and pepper

Pinch of ground cloves

1 lb smoked ham, cut into 1# cubes

4 ½ C water

2 C. Chicken Broth

 

Sort beans and put them into a large pot.  Cover with fresh water and allow them to soak overnight. Drain and rinse the beans and place them in a slow cooker.  Add garlic, onion, salt, pepper, ham and gr. Cloves.  Pour in water and broth.  Cover and cook on low for about 8 hours until beans are tender and creamy.  Add additional salt and pepper to taste.  For a less creamy texture, just add 1 to 2 cups of additional water.
